Though much of graduation season is soundtracked by the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, the stuffy layer of tradition is occasionally punctured by pop hits that strike the right emotional chord. Over the past few decades, a select number of songs have captured the proper feelings of pride, nostalgia, excitement and sadness that accompany such a rite of passage. Quite a few people tossing their mortarboards this summer will have grown up with Miley Cyrus — from her Hannah Montana days to her rebellious twerk era to her very grown string of backyard shows alongside the likes of Joan Jett. I met 3-year-olds, I met year-olds, I met year-olds. I got so many different fans.

It’s that time of year!
Graduation season is upon us. And although your favorite student may not be celebrating with a march across the stage to the tune of "Pomp and Circumstance," playing these graduation songs during their party virtual or otherwise will help make the day feel special. Tracks like Vitamin C's " Graduation " mark the end of one chapter, whereas Natasha Bedingfield's " Unwritten " is littered with inspirational quotes. From sad and nostalgic to happy hip hop tunes, these songs will remind them that exciting adventures are still ahead.
Songs 1-16: Songs that Uplift, Encourage and Celebrate
Commencement marks both the end of an era and a new life chapter. At first, it's hard to believe you've finally arrived as you take senior year photos, go through rehearsals, and get fitted for your graduation cap and gown. Then you walk across the stage to accept that precious diploma that you've worked so hard to earn. At some point during the festivities, the realization sits heavy, a bittersweet lump in your throat: You'll never be together with your classmates like this again. Paths diverge.
Although new fresh ones appear each year, some songs are perennial favourites. I decided to put together a list of the most commonly suggested songs. This list will be updated each year to include new songs. The songs below are listed in order of release date and the link goes to the Youtube video of the song. IMPORTANT : although most songs in the list are considered clean and student-friendly, please use your own judgement when listening to them or watching the video and selecting a song for your school. Every school has different guidelines and expectations so YOU need to choose what works best for your students. The Days — Avicii. Que Sera — Justice Crew. Fight Song — Rachel Platten. Compass — Lady Antebellum.
